走访了北京报国寺文化市场、潘家园旧货市场以及爱家国际收藏中心，发现一方鸡血石印章，根据品质不同价格从几百元到上百万元不等，而经营鸡血石的商家普遍表示近年来鸡血石价格扶摇直上。
曾经为央视《鉴宝》栏目的特邀专家、爱家国际收藏中心宝玉石收藏专家夏增昆分析认为，鸡血石从古至今被人们喜欢的原因有几个：首先，鸡血石的颜色红
艳如鸡血，民间一直就有用鸡血驱鬼避邪的说法；其次，鸡血石红艳似火，有象征红红火火之意；但最主要的原因是鸡血石产量现在越来越少，精品更是十分难得。
由于鸡血石矿中含有汞，国家曾经大规模采矿炼汞，现在剩余的鸡血石量就很少。因此价格自然急剧上升，3年来足足涨了10倍。
鸡血石价格的攀升在拍卖市场上也体现得十分明显，2003年5月北京翰海拍卖会上一件清代鸡血石方章成交价仅为8000元，2005年12月品质相 当的一件清代鸡血石方章价格迅速涨到120000元，2007年12月，北京翰海秋季拍卖会举办了“日精月华——国石艺术”专场拍卖，一块由国家级雕刻大 师牛克思所雕的“昌化鸡血石雕楼阁山子”更是以1344万元人民币成交，创下了当时中国当代工艺品的最高价格纪录。夏增昆认为，正是由于其资源的极缺性， 有眼力和能力的收藏投资者收藏鸡血石定会有不错的回报。
